The French Plait!
A French braid may appear complicated. But once you have it, it’s nearly effortless to pull off. We use his style for our Tap and Modern Exams with the tails of the Plait pinned up. For Exams we of course use lots of Hairspray and Gel to secure those wispy bits of hair.
I have been asked numerous times to show parents and students how to do the plait so I thought I would write aboout it instead! This means you can access this page anytime you require a helping hand. I do recomend practising with slightly dirty hair as you can grip the hair better.
Step 1: Brush the Hair! Simple I know, it gets rid of those terrible knots.
Step 2: Split the Hair into two sections - for one Plait, do not part the hair into two sections. I usually loosly tie one section of hair with an elastic band so make sure it doesn't fall into the Plait on the other side.
Step 3: Gather hair at the top of the head and divide into three sections. Hold right section in right hand, left section in left hand, and middle section between thumb and another finger of either hand. Cross the sections as if you are starting a traditional Plait.
Step 4: Add hair into sections. Before repeating your cross-over motion, with the right section gather a little bit of additional hair from the head's right side. Now cross the larger portion of hair over the middle and include into your braid.
Step 5: Add hair to the section on the other side. Gather a small section of the remaining hair on the left side of your head up and into the left section and cross that over the middle section. TIP: Gather of equal size to the one you just gathered.
Step 6: Repeat adding hair to each section of the Plait and continue to Cross sections until you've gathered all the additional hair strands. Finish at the bottom with a regular traditional Plait and secure with an elsatic band.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side of your head if doing two french Plaits.
It does take some pratice so grab your child when you can :) Hope this helps!
